Teens Drumming for Life! – an experience for teens from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm

“Nearly 50% of America’s adults are poor readers, or functionally illiterate” according

to the National Adult Literacy Survey as quoted on the website.  The survey

was a project of the National Center for Education Statistics, a unit of the Federal

Department of Education first conducted in 1993 and then again in 2003.

One tool being offered to combat this scourge  is “Drumming for Life, “ which is a

rhythm and reading program that increases scores by up to 50%. It is being offered

on a limited reservation basis to Rosemead area residents and is presented by Steven

Angel's Drumming for Life Institute. It has been featured on PBS and, according to the

official description on the Rosemead County library website is “heralded by the L.A.

Times, L.A. Parent, CBS and CNN!   This program will provide a fun and safe avenue

for teens to release and express their feelings in a productive manner.”
