San Gabriel Mountains Forever - the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors has endorsed creation of a San Gabriel Mountains national recreation area similar to that presently in the Santa Monica mountains. This is an area that includes 70% of the open space in Los Angeles County and is the source of one third of our drinking water

The endorsement came in the wake of an extended study and consideration of various options. Now local governments are starting to endorse the concept, which will preserve 36,000 acres of wilderness while optimizing public use of other portions. More information can be found at this website.
