Betsy Ross and the American Flag - In a FREE program for ALL ages attendees to this special presentation about the life and times of Betsy Ross who, according to legend, designed the first national flag. It will run from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
Born in 1752, Betsy Ross became a wife, working mother and entrepreneur who led a life filled with triumph and tragedy. In 1777, when George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross asked Betsy if she could make a flag from the design they presented to her, she said, "I do not know, but I will try."
The Betsy Ross story was brought to public attention in 1870 by her grandson, William Canby, in a speech he made to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Canby and other members of Betsy's family signed sworn affidavits stating that they heard the story of the making of the first flag from Betsy's own mouth.
Betsy Ross will be portrayed by Suzan Gallerito, a member of Knott's Berry Farm's Entertainment and Education Team, Living Legends, and Women in Theater who performs regularly as a historical impressionist for schools, civic groups, presidential libraries, parades, and fairs. .

General Kiwanis Information:
NOTE: There are regular meetings of other Kiwanis clubs in our area, including those listed after the Rosemead-focused activities below. We do advise confirming meeting times and locations before going to a meeting as all clubs periodically change locations or times (as well as skipping meetings) for special events and/or holidays. A listing of adjacent community Kiwanis meeting sites and times follows this schedule.
Rosemead Kiwanis usually meets in the multi-purpose Social Hall adjacent to the Chapel of the California Mission Inn campus. The address of the building is 4807 Earle Avenue, Rosemead, CA (on the west side of Earle Avenue between Mission and Grand streets). Meetings are normally held on Thursdays beginning at 12:10 pm unless otherwise stated.
Meetings normally feature an outside speaker or program with specifics announced by email and posted on this page of the Rosemead Kiwanis Website.
A buffet-style meal is available at a cost of $10.00 for those attending all California Mission Inn site meetings but purchase is optional for guests. Rosemead Kiwanis members have eight meals every three months incorporated into their quarterly dues and are only charged for extra meals beyond that.
In addition to the regular weekly meetings Rosemead Kiwanis holds periodic "Community Collaboration" meetings at various times and locations with K-Family and Kiwanis Network partners. Time and location of these meetings are announced via email to interested parties and posted on this page of the Rosemead Kiwanis website.
