   Greetings to our K-Family (Kiwanis affiliated group of clubs) and other friends.

 

·        Below, as the concluding issue of our initial eight week test series. is another synopsis

of current news and events affecting Rosemead residents and workers.   We are happy

to report that the response has been favorable enough that we will be continuing these

bulletins, whose circulation reach will shortly be expanded

 

·        Attached is the weekly  "Fax of Life" inspirational letter, courtesy of Scott's Valley Kiwanis.

NEWS

 

RETHINK SEMINAR Rosemead's United Methodist Church will be one of many worldwide downlink centers for the 2008 Rethink Conference.  This meeting, featuring many name celebrities in six fields (media, politics, faith, science, business and technology) will be being beamed via satellite from the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County on the evening of Friday, January 18, and all day Saturday, January 19, 2008.

 

Combined admission for both days will be $25, of which $ 5 will be given to the Rosemead Kiwanis Foundation, according to United Methodist Pastor and Kiwanian Mike Deguzman. Details are being finalized and will be furnished as a supplemental email and posted to the rosemeadkiwanis.org website as soon as available.

 

AFTERSCHOOL.NOW ― DECEMBER ISSUE The After School Alliance has released the December, 2007, issue of Afterschool.now. A special, more easily read, .pdf edition has been posted in eight pages to the rosemeadkiwanis.org website. Featured are two articles on studies illustrating academic gains from afterschool programs and a $100 increase in Federal funding for such programs.

 

TEMPLE BOOKMARK WINNERS The winners of the 2007-2008 Temple Intermediate Bookmark Award contest have been announced by Temple RIF Coordinator Minh Anderson. They are: Lucy Nguyen (7th), Megan Ho (8th), and the Grand prize winner was Sally Huynh (8th).  Sally's drawing of a boy and girl sharing a book garnered the most votes from the Kiwanian-supplied judges. Recipients were given prizes of $10, $10, and $20 respectively, courtesy of the Rosemead Kiwanis Foundation.

 

STATE OFFERS MORTGAGE CRISIS RESOURCE "Many Californians are facing the possibility of home foreclosure due to unforeseen circumstances and events," notes a bulletin from Assemblyman and former Kiwanis KEY Club member Mike Eng. As a resource to help in this area the state has established a special crises website. The address is  http://adc.asm.ca.gov/issues/MortgageCrisis. Resources on the site include keys to avoiding foreclosure scams and available free loan counseling from Federal agencies.

             Roundtable Topics for response and feedback from Kiwanis members (This

             meeting features a periodic alternative format used by our Club for members

             to exchange ideas and viewpoints on varied topics.

 

      Thursday, January 10, 2008 ―  

            Fundraising Tenets - Anthony Robles, Rosemead Kiwanian whose firm

            specializes in fundraising assistance for government and charitable groups,

            shares principles which may help in our own ongoing efforts.

            Rosemead Report - Oliver Chi  The City Manager of Rosemead reviews

            the status of the city during past year and prospects for the future.
