NEWS

 

NW Member Snags 3 Burglers: On Friday, December 2, 2008 at 6:45 p.m.a Neighborhood Watch member called the Sherriff’s station to report a suspicious person and a home burglary possibly in progress in the 4000 Block of Earle Avenue. A quick response from deputies resulted in apprehending three juveniles in the act. The juveniles are now in police custody. States Mandy Wong of the Rosemead Public Safety Department:” we would like to commend this …  Neighborhood Watch member, for his quick actions and for his involvement to make a difference in his neighborhood.”

 

Treat the Hungry Holiday The Rosemead Public Safety Business Unit is having its 1st Annual “Treat the Hungry” Holiday canned food drive (please see attached file). In the spirit of giving during this Holiday Season, we are asking for your support to help donate a bag of canned food to help the less fortunate families. The food items will be donated to People for People in Rosemead.

 

The Rosemead Neighborhood Watch Block Captains are asking neighbors to help out. If you have not been approached by someone and would like to help out this great cause you can still help. Simply bag the food items into a brown or plastic bag and attach the half slip from the attached flyer for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Wal-mart. You may drop it off at the Public Safety Center by or before December 17.

 

Contest Deadline Extended: Assemblyman Mike Eng (a former Kiwanian KEY Club member) has extended his 2nd annual “There Ought to be a Law” contest deadline to December 15. It is intended both for ideas that could improve our community and citizen ideas as to laws that should be enacted, changed or repealed. Don Bosco KEY Clubbers Serve: Members of the Don Bosco KEY Club logged twenty eight service hours during November as part of two district projects: feeding of the homeless in Pasadena Park and a clean-up project on San Gabriel Blvd., according to the club’s latest MRF report

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2008 – RKC MEETING: (Special Meeting)*

 

Special Music Program – The Rice Elementary School Rhythmtics will  present a special free choral program for CMI residents and the general Rosemead community featuring the Rhythmatics from the Garvey School District’s Rice Elementary School at 1:20 PM following our regular luncheon meeting that will state at 12:30 (note special time).

 

Special note: there will be a special informational meeting for prospective new Rosemead Kiwanis members from 11:15 to 12:15 in advance of our regular meeting. Existing Kiwanis members are welcome to participate.   

 

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17 – Community Public Safety Meeting

 

Holiday Safety Tips- The location is 8301 East Garvey Avenue (NE Corner of intersection with Charlotte). Parking will be available in the adjacent Zapopan Park parking lot. THURSDAY DECEMBER 18, 2008 ROSEMEAD CHAMBER OPEN HOUSE

 

The Rosemead Chamber of Commerce will host a free Open /house from 12 noon until 4:00 PM (see flyer attached for details), featuring a 1:30 appearance by the Rice Elementary Rhythmax choir, refreshments and a visit by Santa. They will also be collecting items to be donated to People For People in connection with their traditional holiday efforts. 

 

 

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2008 – RKC MEETING: (No Regular Meeting)*

 

No Meeting - There will be no RKC meeting at CMI this week due to observance of the Christmas Holiday and special activity two days later.

 

THURSDAY DECEMBER 27, 2008 – RKC MEETING: (Special Activity)*

 

Service Project - RKC will host lunch serving for KEY Club volunteers involved with Rose Parade float decoration. We have arranged with Tia’s Coffee shop in El Monte  to supply 550 lunches and have extended invitation to other Division 10 Kiwanis Clubs to join us in this effort.

 

THURSDAY JANUARY 15, 2009 ROSEMEAD CHAMBER LUNCHEON

 

State of the City The Rosemead Chamber will be starting the new year out on a positive note with an update on the State of the City in the Frank Tripepi room of the Garvey Center, 9108 Garvey Avenue Rosemead, CA, 91770, starting at 11:30 am. The $15 meal will be catered by DiPilla’s Italian Restaurant.  For details call Ruth Bourne at he Chamber office. 626/288-0811.
